From the Academy Award®-winning Coen Brothers comes The Big Lebowski - the hilariously quirky comedy-thriller about bowling, avant-garde art, nihilistic Austrians, and a guy named… The Dude. Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski doesn't want any drama in his life… heck, he can't even be bothered with a job. But, in a case of mistaken identity, a couple of thugs break into his place and steal his rug (you gotta understand, that rug really tied the room together). Now, The Dude must embark on a quest with his crazy friends to make things right and get that rug back! Starring Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, John Goodman, John Turturro and Steve Buscemi, The Big Lebowski has become a cultural phenomenon. Join LAist and FilmWeek's Larry Mantle for a special screening of this classic movie!
The Movie Screeners Club is an ongoing monthly short film festival featuring short movies made by local filmmakers every third Thursday of each month. After the last short film is shown, we have a filmmaker panel about the motivation behind making the movie and the process that was done to make it. Audience members will vote for their top 3 favorite short movies and each month we will announce the winner of the Audience Award. At the end of the year, we will feature each monthly Audience Award winner to vote for the Champion of the Year in December! Stay after the filmmaker panel concludes, join us in the lobby for a social and networking mixer.

TWO TO ONE | ZWEI ZU EINS Germany (2024) 116 min. DCP Projection. German/English with English Subtitles Writer-Director Natja Brunckhorst, Starring Sandra Hüller, Max Riemelt, Ronald Zehrfeld, Ursula Werner, Peter Kurth German Box office smash hit, directed by Natja Brunckhorst and featuring the 2024 Academy Award-nominated Sandra Hüller („Anatomy of a Fall“, „Toni Erdmann“), alongside Max Riemelt („Sense 8“) and Ronald Zehrfeld („Barbara“, „Phoenix,“ and "Babylon Berlin"). Summer 1990, Halberstadt, East Germany: The Berlin Wall has fallen, and the country is filled with uncertainty over what lies ahead. In a major step toward reunification, East German Marks can be exchanged for West German ones at a rate of two to one, giving citizens mere days to exchange their currency before the old bank notes become worthless. When three friends, Maren (Sandra Hüller), Robert (Max Riemelt), and Volker (Ronald Zehrfeld), stumble upon the vault near Halberstadt, where the old notes are being stored, they stuff their backpacks full of cash and hatch an intricate plan to put the soon-to-be worthless money into circulation. The group’s plan seems fool-proof until notes that never existed in the GDR begin to circulate. Writer-director Natja Brunckhorst spins the real events behind the “treasure of Halberstadt” into a crowd-pleasing tragicomedy adventure blending comedy, reflections on friendship, societal resilience, and community. This screening at the Gardena Cinema is part of German Currents at the Gardena Cinema and is presented with the support of AMONG FRIENDS – UNTER FREUNDEN, a campaign of the Goethe-Institut USA to celebrate and strengthen transatlantic friendship.
